MENTORING/DEMO LISTENING SESSIONS
The Dewey Beach Music Conference and Festival Mentoring Sessions offer unique networking opportunities. All showcase performers and registrants can sign-up for 20 minute sessions with a select group of music industry professionals. Meet one-on-one with someone who can help your act chart a course for success. Get the information and contacts you can use to advance your career. Your session also includes demo listening and critique. Artists should submit their best work and be prepared for some knee-jerk opinions and critiques regarding production, structure, vocal/lyrical content and musicianship.
MUSIC INDUSTRY MEET & GREET
Designed exclusively for the Dewey Beach Music Conference and Festival, the industry meet and greets are 60-90 minute sessions in the Booksandcoffee House. A group of top industry pros will speak on hot topics relevant to emerging talent and take questions from the group. Informal and laid back, complete with comfy chairs and fresh brewed coffees, these sessions give performers and registrants the time and place to get up close and personal.

Community, Networking and Promotions for the Indie Artist: 11:30-12:00pm
Many indie artists want to know how to get from point A to point B in their music careers. Madalyn Sklar breaks it down and provides new ideas to jumpstart and motivate you to reach new heights. She’ll discuss the business side and offer new ideas on promoting you and your music.
Madalyn Sklar started GoGirlsMusic.com in 1996 with a vision of bringing together and empowering indie women musicians. Ten years later, GoGirlsMusic.com has become a welcome destination for women in music through networking and events. GoGirls produces the GoGirlsMusicFest, Invasion of the GoGirls @ SXSW, Battle of the GoGirls and more. In the last 6 years, Sklar has spearheaded over 100 benefit showcases for various organizations including the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, MusiCares, American Liver Foundation, Nicole Brown Charitable Foundation and more.
She has spoken on music panels at 2NMC, Dewey Beach, Dfest, DIY Convention, Folk Alliance, Hyperactive Music Festival, Invasion of the GoGirls @ SXSW, Millennium Music Conference, NEMO, Rockrgrl and South Park Music Festival. She is also a music business coach and consultant working with indie artists, helping them achieve their goals and elevate their music careers.

Topics will include song arrangement, demos, press kits, assembling a team, new record company business models, music publishing, distribution, promotion, publicity, Internet marketing, creating a realistic game plan, building your team and much more. Maximizing Your Song's Potential: 1:30pm-3:30om
Seminar will cover
- Initial Song Evaluation
- Arrangement Do's and Don'ts
- Learn Tips & Tricks for sonic quality
- Increase your Audience target market
Producer Blake Althen of Human Factor takes three vocal and guitar tracks and, in real time, creates three versions of the song right before your eyes. At each step, Blake explains the concepts, techniques, and practices top-notch producers use to bring out the best qualities of a song.
Participants experience the actual production of a finished song and learn key production principles, including initial evaluation of the song, design of a final product, selection of production techniques, and use of the best hardware and software to complete production. The seminar is a dynamic and live demonstration of all aspects of production: performance, arrangement, and technology.
Blake Althen is Human Factor's Senior Producer. Producing bands, including his own, since the early 90's, Blake would say he was self-educated. In addition to his great respect for learning by doing, he has gained some of his education at Berklee College of Music. Blake's love of all kinds of music has allowed him to work on a plethora of different projects outside his usual fields of rock and contemporary pop. He has produced songs and albums for artists all over the USA and Europe, including SONiA and Disappear Fear (DC), Rachel Panay (DC), Jennifer Cutting (UK/DC), Abby Someone (South Dakota), Noa Tylo (South Africa/NYC), Pale Beneath the Blue (Cincinnati, OH), Mariana Bell (NYC), and Korea (Sweden).
He has also composed music for corporate clients including Honda, National Geographic, NFL Carolina Panthers, US Army Modular Forces, the Marine Marathon, and others. His songs have won 1st place in songwriting contests such as the Just Plain Folks Music Awards and Songwriters Association of Washington; and he has been nominated for over 15 Wammies (Washington Area Music Awards).
Currently, Blake is pioneering DVD-Audio and 5.1 Surround Sound mixing. In addition to his full production schedule, Blake lectures frequently on college campuses and at music conferences on music production and both musical and audio engineering. As producer or instructor, Blake brings knowledge, professionalism, and experience to musical productions and education.
